TOPPED

These trees have all been topped so that guests at the adjacent hotel will have an ocean view. Topping is one of the most dangerous practices. It would have been better to plant lower growing species. Beautiful grounds at the hotel...ugly trees.

STRIPPED

Believe it or not this mutilation was done by a local well established company! The tree was stub-cut everywhere! It will never display a natural growth habit. New suckers (branches) will be more prone to failure. This tree is located on the East Side of town. ASK of Location.

STUB CUTTING

This is another example of very poor pruning practices. End cuts to reduce the size of the canopy has exposed the tree to insects and disease. The tree's response is to produce "watersprouts" that grow rapidly and are prone to failure. This tree is at the corner of Pine and Broadway.

This method of mangling is called "pollarding". It is not. It is a very expeditious way of removing all of the limbs on a tree to avoid leaf clean up. It renders the tree in the most un-natural state. This one is at the corner of Branciforte and Fairmount.

This is one of the most brutal types of tree butchery. This one is near Pine and Broadway. By making end cuts the tree limb stubs are open to insects and diseases as well as producing more invasive roots.
